Using Numicon for subtraction in P4

These children are exploring big concepts in Numeracy without even realising. They think they are just ‘taking away 10’ but using Numicon and their hundred squares together helps them to combine two concepts called ‘Ordinality of Number’ and ‘Cardinality of Number’ .  Numicon is a wonderful resource for allowing children to ‘visualise’ number and really see what is happening  when they carry out number operations.
